History
and Purpose
NCAECIC
began
as
the
North
Carolina
Hospital
Teacher
Association
in
1989,
but
changed
its
name
to
the
North
Carolina
Association
for
the
Education
of
Chronically
Ill
Children
in
2002
to
become
more
inclusive
of
other
professionals
working
with
hospitalized
and
homebound
students.
The
organization
has
since
grown
to
include
physicians,
nurses,
psychologists,
social
workers,
therapists,
counselors,
administrators,
and
non-hospital-based
teachers.
The
purpose of NCAECIC is to
advance the knowledge and
expertise of our membership
in order to enhance the
educational experience of
their students. This organization
offers an opportunity for
those working with children
with physical, emotional
or mental illnesses to improve
their knowledge and skills,
to network with others statewide
for ongoing support, and
to advocate for appropriate
policies, conditions, and
resources.
